iPhone Life’s resident iPhoneographer and Managing Editor Rheanne Taylor has a favorite photo editing app that she uses constantly for her polishing her photos: Darkroom Photo Editor (free). But it’s not just her—avid photographers will tell you their all-time favorite filter from Darkroom at the drop of a hat, and a quick look at the app’s review will tell you much users love it. This app offers users a lot of control over their photos with a wide range of options. Access to the basic features of the app is free, but users say it’s well worth $3.99 to get all the premium tools or $5.99 for all the tools and filters. We’ll tell you more about the Darkroom app below, including what  it can do and why we love it.

I’ve heard it said over and over again that the best camera is the one you have with you. Honestly, I couldn’t agree more. I have an amazing DSLR and yet I find that the majority of my pictures are taken with my iPhone. Unfortunately, our iPhones still struggle in a lot of ways that more advanced cameras don’t. One of those ways is the iPhone’s intolerance for low-light situations. If you’re sick of blurry, unclear images, then here are a few tips and tricks that have really helped me out. Here’s how to shoot clearer, better photos on your iPhone.

Not too long ago, Instagram introduced the ability to save photos you like into your own little collection board. This is a great feature for keeping track of photos you’ve found that you love and may want to check out again later on. But, not only can you save those photos, you can organize those photos into collections, much like a Pinterest board. I’m saving every Insta-pic I like now, so this feature is perfect for making sure I can find the image I want to among the many saved. Here’s how to organize your saved Instagram photos like a Pinterest board.

A cool feature in the Photos app is the geolocation tool. With it, you can organize your photos by looking at them on a map. Let’s say you took a trip to Mexico. You can look at the map, which will show your photos in all the places you took them. Then you can look at Mexico, tap on your photos, and see all the pictures from your trip. Here’s how to view photos by location on a map with iPhone or iPad.

All those cute pictures, funny memes, and hilarious gifs your friends send you in Messages can take up a surprising amount of your iPhone's storage capacity. Each attachment is saved to the message conversation thread, which is great if you decide to save a couple of the photos. But if you’re someone who doesn't often delete older messages, you can easily free up some phone storage by deleting the attachments. And luckily, you can delete attachments from Messages without deleting the conversation.

Big news broke the internet recently. Since Instagram now has Snapchat-like features such as disappearing photo stories, the social network decided to continue its imitation: if someone takes a screenshot of your disappearing photo, you will receive a notification. While the internet seemed to freak out over this, it’s a great measure for privacy. Disappearing photos are supposed to...well, disappear. So it only makes sense that you’d receive a notification when someone decides your disappearing photo should be a more permanent photo on their device. Now that Instagram stories are a bit more secure, here’s how to take an Instagram photo that will disappear.

Before iOS 9, you were limited to sending five photos via email from iPhone. But now that limit is gone for the Mail app. Some people have reported being able to email up to 100 photos. While that is a lot of photos to email, it’s a great feature to have for sharing photos privately with family and friends. For the longest time, I emailed pictures to myself to easily transfer photos from my iPhone to my computer. Whatever the reason you need to send photos via email from iPhone, you can send a lot more than you used to be able to. Here’s how to email pictures from iPhone.

Having a difficult time remembering where that picture from your spontaneous trip to the beach was taken? Or at what time you captured that beautiful sunset? The great thing about geotagging on iPhone is that you’ll never be left wondering when or where a particular photo was taken again—but for many, that might not be such a good thing. If revealing your location is a concern, you can easily turn this feature off. Here’s how to keep your camera from tracking your location on iPhone.

The People album on iPhone with iOS 10 or later allows you to group photos of individual people together in their own album. One feature we recently discovered is the ability to hide specific photos in a person’s album. Let’s say there’s a photo of them you don’t want others to see if they were to look at their album, you can hide the photo so that it’s not easy to find. Here’s how to hide a photo from a People album on iPhone.

With iOS 10, Apple added the album People to the Photos app on iPhone. In general, it’s a very handy feature for finding pictures of a particular person. If you often take group photos, the People album does the work of finding photos of the people in that group for you. But what if there’s a particular person whose People album you want to delete, or one you'd like to add? There's a new way to do both in iOS 11. Here’s how to delete or add a People album in Photos on iPhone.

Beginning with iOS 10 on the iPhone, the Photos app got a new album called People. Thanks to the iPhone's photo face recognition, you can automatically sort photos by the people in the photos. For example, my co-worker Jaime is one such person in my People album. All of the photos I have with him in them collect into the Jaime folder, which allows me to quickly and easily access those photos. However, the app isn’t able to perfectly recognize every image of people's faces in a photo, thus some photos remain uncategorized. But you can change that; here’s how to add people to the People album on iPhone.

Tagging someone on Instagram is pretty straightforward. If you’re viewing an Instagram photo you really like that you want to share with a friend, you can simply tag them in the comments and they'll receive a notification. But did you know you can also send an Instagram picture as a dm, or direct message? If you choose this option, it's more private because you don't have to mention them in the public comments. Let's learn how to direct message a picture on Instagram, or how to just tag someone on an Instagram photo without sending them a dm.

The Photos app got a lot of small upgrades with iOS 10, including the addition of a People album. The app looks through your photos for similar faces, then groups them together so that if you’re looking for images of a specific person, you can easily find them. However, this will only work if you assign a name to that group of photos. Otherwise, how will the Photos app know who Jaime is when you’re looking for his dorky photos? Here’s how to add a name to the People album in Photos on iPhone.

A new Instagram feature allows you to upload up to ten photos and videos in one post to your Instagram feed. This creates a sort of slideshow on Instagram that you can share with your friends via your Instagram feed. The slideshow appears on Instagram much the same as a regular post, except you have the ability to swipe left and right to view the other photos or videos in the post. I’m sure Instagram users will come up with many creative ways to use this slideshow feature to its fullest. This is another improvement from Instagram on par with its deciison to finally allow users to create a second Instagram account. Nice to see the company implementing requested features. Here’s how to share multiple photos or videos to Instagram in one post.

Did you know that in the Photos app you can apply a filter, tweak an effect like contrast, or even remove those changes to reset the picture? You're not stuck with the settings you pick when you take a picture—you can change them simply by opening the Photos app, selecting a photo to edit, tapping the Edit option at the top right of the screen, and then swiping left or right through the exposure options below the picture to apply effects. The Photos app puts the power right in your hands, with no need for third-party photo editing apps!
