Sometimes I'll misread the name of someone calling me, and having a photo of the person pop up with their name on my iPhone screen has cut down on the confusion. Here's how to add a photo to a contact. Trust me, it's a great feature to use so you don't talk to your cousin Ellie thinking she's your coworker Elaine.

While some people consider their iPhone a camera first and a communication device second, not everyone has embraced iPhone photography. If that's you and you want to get started using your iPhone camera, you've come to the right place. Whether you're taking a photo of a pet, sunset, or yourself, your iPhone can be used as a point-and-shoot (in this case, point-and-tap) camera. And once you've mastered the steps below, check out this more advanced article on How to Shoot Clearer, Better Photos on Your iPhone.

Apple’s iOS Photos app has a few default photo albums that automatically organize the photos you have on your iPhone. But what if you’d like to create a new photo album? Or perhaps you’d like to organize those photos into albums that make sense to you. Thankfully, your built-in Photos app does just that, allowing you to place your pictures into specific albums that you create yourself. Here’s how to create a photo album on your iPhone.

When you're taking photos with your iPhone, sometimes you have to finagle your phone a bit to get the right shot by tilting it or holding it on its side to use the volume buttons to snap a picture. But while the photos usually appear right-side up in the iPhone's Photos app regardless of how you were holding the phone when you snapped the picture, sometimes they don't. And sometimes the photos appear upside down when you're trying to upload the photos to your computer or when you send them in an email. Here's how to fix upside-down photos on your iPhone.

Adding a picture to a text message in Apple's Messages app used to be quick and easy; you just tapped the little camera icon to the left of the text field, chose an image, or multiple images, to attach, and sent your text as usual. If you're stumped, here's how to add a photo to a text message on your iPhone. Starting with iOS 12, the familiar process for sending photos in Messages has changed: The camera icon is still there, but it only offers the option to take a new image to send and accessing your Photos app from there requires a second step. Don't worry though, it's still very simple to send images from the Photos app on your iPhone; let's learn the new way right now!

iOS 12 has added tons of helpful and fun new features to your iPhone's software, one of my favorite new ones is the ability to add cool effects and Animojis (and Memojis!) while taking a picture or video in the Messages app.

Typical vintage filters for photos slap on a yellow tint and call it a day. VSCO, a photography app that doubles as a photo editor, imitates analog camera settings to make your images look like natural film photos. The app also offers VSCO X, a yearly subscription that bulks up the app to include over 100 filters and tools to edit your photos to look like professional pieces.

By default on Mac, iTunes opens automatically when you plug your iPhone or iPad into your computer. If you have a Mac, the Photos app will also automatically open. But for many people this causes a lot of problems, including computer freezes. Luckily, you can disable iTunes auto launch pretty easily. We’ll go over how to stop iTunes from opening automatically when your iPhone is connected as well as how to disable Photos auto launch when your iPhone is connected. You’ll need to change these settings on your computer, so have it ready.

I've been really enjoying the iOS Photos app lately, particularly the People Album. It's pretty amazing, and convenient, that the iOS Photos app can scan every face in every image, then identify people and sort the pictures into their own respective People albums. Sometimes though, the Photos app gets the identification wrong and puts a friend or family member's picture in the wrong People album. So what do you do when one of your photos has been misidentified and put in the wrong spot like this? Let's learn how to remove photos that have been put into the wrong People album.

This is a favorite tip of mine for the iPhone. You can shoot video and take a still photo while you’re recording. There have been many times when I was shooting video and wanted to take a quick snapshot. Luckily, doing so on an iPhone is super easy. Here’s how to take a still photo while shooting video on your iPhone.

With iOS 11, Apple added new Live Photos features, including the ability to turn your Live Photo into a long-exposure photo, mimicking the effect of a long-duration shutter speed in a traditional camera. Long exposure is most often used for pictures where the photographer wants to see motion blurs or light trails, or to better capture low-light scenes. Surely you’ve seen those beautiful photos with stars forming circles in the sky or a river with water that looks like smoke—those are photos that used long exposure photography. With previous iOS versions, iPhone users needed a long-exposure app to capture the long-exposure effect, but not any more! I’m no photographer; but this feature allows me to make any Live Photo look almost as good as a real long-exposure picture. Here’s how to use the Live Photo Long-Exposure Effect on the iPhone.

I love taking photos and my Instagram account shows it. The Layout app from Instagram helps me combine multiple photos into one collage. So if I have pictures from a party or a walk around the park, I can put several of them together into one frame. Layout makes it easy to customize, share, and save my creatively arranged photos.

With Apple's Live Photos, you’re not always exactly aware of what’s being filmed. Since an iPhone Live Photo captures 1.5 seconds before and after a shot is taken, it’s easy to accidentally catch the blur from lowering your phone, or worse, something you don’t want anyone to see. Before iOS 11, you could edit a Live Photo by turning it into a still, or simply delete it. But starting with iOS 11 and continuing with iOS 13, you can trim live pictures just like you would a video. Here’s how to make edits to a Live Photo on your iPhone.

We've already gone over how to take and share a screenshot on an iPhone. With iOS 12 or later, the screenshot appears in the lower-left corner of the screen for a few seconds. If you want to use Apple's Markup feature on the screenshot, you can tap on the fleeting image to instantly make your changes, adding text, drawings, and more. If you accidentally took the screenshot, you can also immediately delete the image by tapping on it. We'll cover how to mark up screenshots with iOS 13 on your iPhone below.

One of my favorite apps for my iPhone is Apple's Photos app; not only are Apple's native Camera and Photos apps free, but they also keep improving with every new operating system. With iOS 12 and later, you can use multiple search terms to find specific pictures in the Photos app. This photo search feature can use one or more of the following categories: date, location, business name, events, people, and type of photo. I'll show you how to use this time-saving feature to search for specific pictures faster and more accurately than ever before.

Apple's Photos app lets you photo search based on location, as well as with multiple search terms. Whenever I see a breathtaking landscape, my first instinct is to pull out my iPhone and attempt to capture a picture of it. So many times I’ve snapped away with my camera, brimming with excitement, only to look into my Camera Roll and find that my pictures were disappointing at best. After all, there’s only so much you can capture in a standard shot on the iPhone. Luckily, the iPhone's native Camera app can take panoramic pictures, so you don't need a special panoramic camera app or photo joiner app to stitch pictures together. Let's get started learning how to take a panorama photo on iPhone and iPad.
