Portrait mode has been making folks look great since the iPhone 7 Plus and 8 Plus—taking great portraits has never been so easy as picking a Portrait Lighting mode and letting the iPhone work its magic. With iOS 13, Apple has added even more flexibility: you can adjust the intensity of the lighting effect applied in Portrait mode. To avoid your photo looking like a bad photoshop job, just tap the lighting intensity icon at the top of the screen and swipe on the slider left or right to tune the effect up or down. A little goes a long way! Let's get started.

Sometimes the right side is the left side—you've taken a picture that needs to be flipped, or mirrored, in order to get the best effect. This effect is super easy in iOS 13; simply open the image in Photos, tap Edit, and use the mirror/flip icon. Images in mirrors are flipped around right to left, so this lets you take a selfie that looks like you do in the mirror, and can also be useful when you need to imbed an image in a collage or other media, since sometimes the direction the subject is facing makes all the difference. Read on for how to horizontally flip pictures or images in the Photos app on the iPhone.

Did you know that in the Photos app you can apply a filter, tweak an effect like contrast, or even remove those changes to reset the picture? You're not stuck with the settings you pick when you take a picture—you can change them simply by opening the Photos app, selecting a photo to edit, tapping the Edit option at the top right of the screen, and then swiping left or right through the exposure options below the picture to apply effects. The Photos app puts the power right in your hands, with no need for third-party photo editing apps! Here’s how to apply filters and tweak contrast in the Photos app on your iPhone.

If you accidentally recorded a video in landscape mode or upside down on your iPhone, then fear not; with iOS 13, you can flip your videos from inside the Photos app. To flip a video with iOS 13, all you have to do is open the video in the Photos app, tap Edit, and tap the cropping icon to open the rotation options. One of my very favorite iPhone features is a simple one, the camera! It's convenient and fun to have a camera in my pocket all the time, and to be able edit my photos right on my iPhone for the best results. Recently I learned that it's possible to use compatible third-party camera and photo-editing apps as an extension, right from my Photos app. And while many of the best photo-editing apps cost money, there are lots of free photo-editor apps with Photos extensions to choose from as well. Let's get started learning how to enable a third-part photo-editor app extension, so you can have as much fun with iPhone photography as I am.

Want to know the quickest way to transfer photos and scan documents from your iPhone to your Mac? Here's how to use the Continuity Camera feature on the Mac, which enables you to scan documents or take photos on your iPhone and instantly have them uploaded on your Mac. Your Mac needs to be updated to macOS 10.14 or later and your iPhone to iOS 12 or later. You won't have to use AirDrop or have your device physically connected to the Mac with a cable for this tip. However, both your iPhone and Mac do need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network with Bluetooth enabled and be near each other (like in the same room). Both Mac and the iPhone will also need to be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication.

Whenever I see a breathtaking landscape, my first instinct is to pull out my iPhone and attempt to capture a picture of it. So many times I’ve snapped away with my camera, brimming with excitement, only to look into my Camera Roll and find that my pictures were disappointing at best. After all, there’s only so much you can capture in a standard shot on the iPhone. Luckily, the iPhone's native Camera app can take panoramic pictures, so you don't need a special panoramic camera app or photo joiner app to stitch pictures together. Let's get started learning how to take a panorama photo on iPhone and iPad.

Portrait Mode is a feature on the iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X, XR, XS, and XS Max that gives photos a professional look by blurring the background (known as the bokeh effect). While Portrait Mode on the iPhone is a software version of what DSLR camera lenses can do, it works pretty well most of the time. But perhaps you took a photo in Portrait Mode that didn’t turn out so well. You can turn off Portrait Mode after taking the photo since it is just a software feature. Here’s how to turn off Portrait Mode after taking a photo on the iPhone.

Apple introduced the Live Photo feature with the iPhone 6S, and it's still a fun and popular feature of the native iPhone Camera app. Unless you've unselected Live Photo settings in the Camera Settings, the Live Photo function is on by default when you open the Camera app, so you need to turn off Live Photo if you want a traditional still shot. Sometimes, though, we all forget to turn off Live Photo; now what? No worries, you can delete the Live Photo version of your picture and keep the still photo.

Adding a picture to a text message in Apple's Messages app used to be quick and easy; you just tapped the little camera icon to the left of the text field, chose an image, or multiple images, to attach, and sent your text as usual. If you're stumped, here's how to add a photo to a text message on your iPhone. Starting with iOS 12, the familiar process for sending photos in Messages has changed: The camera icon is still there, but it only offers the option to take a new image to send and accessing your Photos app from there requires a second step. Don't worry though, it's still very simple to send images from the Photos app on your iPhone; let's learn the new way right now!

Apple's Photos app lets you photo search based on location, as well as with multiple search terms. Now, instead of trying scrolling through vacation pictures looking for the photos you took in a specific place, you can just search for that area, and all the pictures from that location will pop right up! Let's get started learning how to use this iPhone Photos search feature right now.

I've been really enjoying the iOS Photos app lately, particularly the People Album. It's pretty amazing, and convenient, that the iOS Photos app can scan every face in every image, then identify people and sort the pictures into their own respective People albums. Sometimes though, the Photos app gets the identification wrong and puts a friend or family member's picture in the wrong People album. So what do you do when one of your photos has been misidentified and put in the wrong spot like this? Let's learn how to remove photos that have been put into the wrong People album.

Image searches are great for when something catches your eye while browsing and you want more information. Here's how to do an image search or reverse image search using the Google Chrome app. There are other search engines that can be used for image searches, along with a growing number of apps solely for this purpose. However, I like using Google Chrome since the image search option while browsing is easy to use with just a few taps.
