  Apple's Health app can tell you how many flights of stairs you've climbed or steps you've taken, your cycling distance, calories, weight, and, starting with iOS 13, how often your headphones were too loud. Sorting through all that data could be daunting, but the Summary tab can be customized to show only what you want to see: simply go open the Health app, tap the Summary tab, tap Edit in the top right corner, and then select the kinds of data you want to see in your summary. More health minded? With a HealthKit accessory, you can track your resting heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate. Looking to focus on nutrition? The Health app can show your nutrients including sodium, fat, carbohydrates, and fiber. Choosing which of all these metrics to view is easy! Let me show you how.

The Apple Watch Series 4 and later has a feature that will contact emergency services when you fall if you either confirm that you need help or you remain immobile for thirty seconds. Fall Detection on the Apple Watch can be enabled in your watch's Emergency SOS settings, which can be found in the Watch app on your iPhone. It's important to keep in mind that while the Apple Watch has an intuitive accelerometer and gyroscope, it won't register all falls. Also, if you participate in high-impact activities such as sports, those activities may register as falls. If you've previously entered your age in the Health app or while setting up your Apple Watch as 65 or older, Fall Detection will be on by default

While wearing your Apple Watch, you'll notice arm movements during activities like knitting, playing games, or even just waving will register as steps. Here's how to delete steps from your Apple Watch, which will erase the data and reset your step count closer to the correct number. You can't do this from your Apple Watch; you'll have to use the Health app on your iPhone.

In a previous tip, we shared how you place an Emergency SOS call on the iPhone (though if you need a refresher, just hop into Settings, tap Emergency SOS, and it will tell you how near the top.) The Apple Watch Workout app is a fantastic activity tracker app. This fitness app not only tracks the duration and type of your workouts but also monitors other metrics like calories burned and distance traveled. Once your running, cardio, swimming, or other workout has been tracked, it counts towards your fitness goals for that day. But what if you forget to start a workout in the Workout app? Apple's Health app helps iPhone users keep track of a variety of data concerning their health all in one place. The iPhone Health app for iPhone versions 5s and later keeps track of how many steps you take in a day, including running and walking distances. Health app users can track their bedtime and how much sleep they've had each night, they can import health data from Bluetooth devices, third-party apps, and doctor's records, and they can even back up all this information on iCloud or their computer and in turn share that information with other apps and devices as users permit. In addition to information collected by the iPhone, or imported from a health care provider, your Health app can also accept data that you enter manually. On the Apple Watch, your activity is represented by three concentric circles that track how much of your daily goals you have met. There’s a red circle for your Move goal, a green one for Exercise, and a blue one for Stand. Those with Parkinson’s, diabetes, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, and asthma can participate in medical research right from their iPhones through Apple’s ResearchKit to help create more effective treatments for their diseases. Through the use of free apps, participants can help doctors and scientists gather data to research how they can better diagnose, treat and prevent disease. Not all the apps require that a user have the particular disease. When the user grants permission, the apps can access data from the Health app, along with any other information the user includes. Participants are not named in the study and all data gathered will be de-identified.
