Being able to ask Siri to call a family member or dictate a text to a friend is one of the most useful offering the AI assistant brings to the iPhone. The one snag is that Siri's pronunciation isn't always the best when it comes to saying names correctly. Siri is great for calling or sending messages, but it’s incredibly frustrating when you tell Siri to call Jacqueline and the AI searches the web for violins. You're not stuck hearing Siri mispronounce names forever, though. Part of the personal assistant's capabilities is being able to learn, so you can train Siri to pronounce your name or any name correctly. Whether it’s your name or a friends, you can fix Siri’s pronunciation in a few short steps. Here’s how to get Siri to say your name correctly as well has how to correct Siri's pronunciation of any name in your contact list.

While activating Siri may not be as intuitive if you're used to having a Home button, it's just as easy once you retrain your muscle memory. Of course, Hey Siri is still an option on the iPhone 11 Pro and earlier iPhones with no Home button, and it's the same as before. But we'll cover how to activate Siri on your iPhone 11 manually below.

Translating your speech from English to another language can come in handy if you're overseas shopping in a foreign country or chatting long distance with a non-English speaking colleague. If you have an iPhone 6s or later, you can turn on Siri by saying, “Hey, Siri” even when your iPhone isn’t plugged in. If you think tipping is optional then you need to revisit your basic being-a-decent-human-being skills. And when in doubt, leave at least 20 percent. When you allow Siri to be accessed from your Lock screen, you may want to consider what Siri is capable of doing without unlocking your device. For example, let’s say you’re in a room with multiple other people. If one of them were to activate Siri when you have Voice Dial turned on, they could tell Siri to call someone without needing your passcode. But if you have Voice Dial turned off, Siri won’t make the call until you enter your iPhone’s passcode. This may or may not be important to you, but it’s good to know what can and cannot be accessed from Lock screen. Here’s how to turn Voice Dial off on iPhone.
